Drawing forms an important part of my practice. Sketching in museums, phone snapping in chapels and churches on my travels, working from catalogues and from my collection of postcards. Watercolour has a pleasing affinity with maiolica painting, the texture of the paper, the spontaneity of the brushstroke, the subtle blends as the fluid colours seep into each other. Rehearsals for painting on glaze they are an opportunity to experiment without the constraints that come with maiolica painting.
